The reason was its close ties to the original series. The gameplay, story, and everything else had close ties directly to the events of the original.

Critics and fans were both mesmerized by the visuals of the game. Unlike its prequels which offered a steady camera angle, Code: Veronica was loved for its dynamic camera. With this new addition, fans got more versatility in gameplay.

Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019):

The remake of the original Resident Evil 2 (1998), the game gets the third spot on our list with a 93 Metacritic Rating. The remake is so good that it overshadows the original. With the action style of today, the makers still maintained the original’s horror elements.

Resident Evil 2’s story is one of the best in the whole series. The story revolves around two very likable protagonists with a splendid supporting cast. The sections with Mr. X are brilliant, proving it as good as anything the series has ever produced.

Resident Evil (1996):

The first installment of the hit series is number four on our list, with a critic rating of 91. With many games following the original’s footsteps, it is still considered the best among the others. The game brings pure nostalgia and a chilling experience of the horror genre.

The game inspired many titles and revived the horror genre in gaming. The creeps of passing through the mansion’s dangerous environments never get old.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (2000):

Fifth on our list is Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, with a critical rating similar to the original game. The game is responsible for turning the Resident Evil series into pure action. The game lacks the horror elements of the original game.

But gameplay-wise, the game remained the same. Yet, the players had to rely more on their firearms. Another noteworthy part of the game is its supposed antagonist, whose sequence can give you goosebumps.

Resident Evil 2 (1999):

Last on our list is the original Resident Evil 2, with a Metacritic score of 89. Unlike the first game, which is confined to an estate, Resident Evil 2 expands things to an entire city. Moreover, the game offers two protagonists, and the players get to play as both of them.
