Over the last few years, metaverse has gained a lot of popularity. Metaverse is a virtual 3D space you can explore using a 3D avatar of yourself. With your avatar, you can interact, do business, and forge social connections with other people. Metaverse is known for its 3D virtual worlds that people use to play games or build their places.

However, today many big businesses like Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games, Roblox, and others have joined the metaverse and created their worlds or metaverses. Metaverse is the collection of various technologies such as virtual reality platforms, gaming, machine learning, blockchain, 3D graphics, digital currencies, sensors, and VR-enabled headsets.

Many workplaces got interested in the metaverse due to the pandemic. Due to the physical restrictions on meetings and travel, companies wanted a place they could remotely interact with their workers. In this feature, we would like to articulate applications of the metaverse in the workplace.

Digital Colleague:

The interaction is not only limited to the avatars of your real-life colleagues, as there are also A.I.-powered human-like bots in the metaverse. These bots are there to assist you. They act as your advisor and assistants and do most of the work for you. In recent years, the use of A.I. systems for conversation has increased. Many organisations use A.I. algorithms that can understand text and voice and conversate in standard language.

Now, these algorithms are changing into human-like bots that can understand a conversation, be more expressive, and make gestures and decisions. UneeQ, an international technology platform, is currently working on developing “digital humans” that can do a variety of jobs in different fields. UneeQ has created a digital shopping assistant Nola, currently in use at Noel Leeming stores, New Zealand.

Virtual Training:

The metaverse is a better training ground and surprisingly reduces the time needed for developing or acquiring a skill. A.I. algorithm coaches can assist in employee training activities. Moreover, an organisation can create its interactive training site using 3D displays to show its products and training manuals.

Creating exercises and simulations can help new employee avatars to learn rapidly and realistically. Gameplay scenarios where one has to challenge oneself ability can help in dealing with challenging situations in real life. At present, medical institutions use virtual training simulations to train new surgeons.

Portability:

You are most probably thinking about whether the experience gained in the metaverse is acceptable. To put it into words,” will the experience gained in a virtual world be relevant in real life?”

The training or education institutions can create a standard learning process for skills acquired in the metaverse acceptable to the concerned authorities. It will not only avoid quality dilution but also provide the required assurance to workers and new employees who will be training in the metaverse.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

With the metaverse, it is possible to bring social connection, versatility, and collaboration of a virtual world to a new scale. NextMeet is a virtual reality platform developed for interactive working, learning solutions, and collaboration. The company based in India has a mission to remove the isolation and disconnectedness of remote working employees.

During the pandemic, remote working caused a lot of stress for many employees, which resulted in their isolation and detachment from work. As a result, it has become a challenge for organisations to keep their employees engaged. But with virtual platforms like NextMeet, remote working employees can feel connected to their workplace and colleagues.

Conclusion:

The workplace after 2020 has completely changed from what we thought it would be in the past years. Remote and hybrid working has revolutionised the way of work. Now, a worker can work from home, which was not possible before. The metaverse in the workplace is very effective and will bring positive results.

The idea of using the metaverse to resolve the issue of employee isolation will bring a positive effect on the mental health of the worker. Now we know how the metaverse can change the workplace and train future employees. Want to learn more about the metaverse? Read our other articles and explore various aspects of the metaverse.
